| Well, in Season 1, the events covered basically are spread over the span of the first three books in the series. Basically, Haruhi Suzumiya, who is considered the school's, "eccentric," chartacter, meets Kyon, the character whose POV is that of the narrator as well as a participant. Eventually, from meeting her, he gets to meet a time traveler, an esper, and an alien, all of whom take interest in her. Why? According to their colective theories, Haruhi has powers over reality that rival that of any other omnipotent being. In fact, she has the power to create a new reality, and she doesn't even know it.
Eventually, Kyon gets dragged into this mess, which is the cause of many an adventure. However, if you want the stuff that's REALLY important to the story, I suggest you look at Vol. 4-7 of the manga, because who knows when Season 2 will come out. _________________

| Ah, yush. One thing I've noticed quite recenty is Haruhi's quite frequent of a protagonist's name in anime/manga. _________________
